The front garden is finally taking off. The stock is mostly done (I probably should have tied it, it did a lot of falling over in the rain), but the lobelia and the petunias are pretty enthusiastic.

Very pretty! I've just planted my first lobelia this morning (in containers because I like the way it droops).

Are you thinking of expanding into more perennials or sticking with annuals?

The zinnias and petunias are high on Jerry's list, so there's likely to always be those annuals. The rest may experiment year by year - and I guess once you put perennials in (do roses count as perennials? Or just "bushes"?) they have squatters' rights. :)

Lobelia is nice. It's especially good in hanging baskets (which are nice on porches) and containers.

You might try creeping phlox along your edges some year. It was a perenial in DC, so it'll come back on its own and cover a bit better every year. :)
